Sharon Undergoes Surgery; Not in Immediate Danger

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's condition is critical but stable and at this time there is no immediate danger to his life, Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital Director Shlomo Mor Yosef told reporters Saturday afternoon. Sharon was rushed into surgery after his condition deteriorated overnight. During the operation, which lasted about four hours, doctors removed about one third of Sharon's large intestine.


Iran's Ahmadinejad: Israel "Will Be Removed"

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that the Palestinians and "other nations" will eventually remove Israel from the region. Addressing a mass demonstration in Tehran, he once again questioned the Holocaust "fairy tale." "We ask the West to remove what they created sixty years ago and if they do not listen to our recommendations, then the Palestinian nation and other nations will eventually do this for them," Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution. Iranian Jewish Leader Protests Ahmadinejad Remarks

The head of the Iranian Jewish community, Harun Yeshayai, protested on Sunday Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's claims that the Holocaust was a myth created to help Israel. In a letter to Ahmadinejad, Yeshayai asked how it was possible to ignore all the evidence of the massacre and expulsion of the Jews of Europe in World War II. He added that Ahmadinejad's comments caused concern among the Jewish community in Iran. (Jerusalem Post)


Rice Urges Russians to Take Tough Stand on Hamas

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Friday to send a clear, strong message in any meetings with Hamas officials that the terror group must stop terror attacks on Israel. On Thursday Putin said that he intends on inviting the leaders of the Palestinian terror group to Moscow. Speaking before NATO heads and defense ministers from six Arab countries in Sicily on Friday, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said, "I call on the international community to refrain from holding talks with Hamas and adopt a unified stance that prevents any dialogue with terror organizations." Astronauts Attend Columbia Memorial in Israel

NASA astronaut Eileen Collins said that although she had seen Israel from space many times, she hadn’t actually visited until last week. She arrived in Tel Aviv Jan. 29, along with two fellow crew members and family members of the late Columbia crew astronauts Doug Brown, Jonathan Clark, and Lani McCool. They were in Israel along with Rona Ramon, widow of Columbia astronaut Ilan Ramon (pictured), the first Israeli in space, to commemorate the third anniversary of the Columbia space shuttle tragedy.
