Georgetown Law: Palestinian Conference is Illegitimate and Divisive
by Oren Lazar

The Palestinian Solidarity Movement conference sponsors have never accepted the right of Israel to exist and have never condemned suicide bombing. I’m sure an answer the sponsors would give is that they are “anti-Israel” not anti-Semitic. That’s like not being anti-Muslim, but only anti-Haj, or not anti-Catholic but anti-communion. Zionism is as inextricably linked to Judaism as any of the pillars of Islam are to Muslims or Catholic rites are to its adherents. (Georgetown Law Weekly)

Georgetown: Conference a Chance to Condemn Violence
by David DeBartolo

A clear and unambiguous statement from the PSM at its conference this weekend denouncing violence by all parties would be a worthwhile step in presenting to Hamas a united front in America against violence as a means of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Regardless of whether the PSM takes a stand against violence or not, its divestment agenda remains morally repugnant. The analogy with South African apartheid is fundamentally flawed. (The Hoya)

Instead of divesting, why not invest in peace and cooperation? Why not invest in Seeds of Peace, or any one of countless other groups set up to bring Israelis and Palestinians closer together? Divestment has failed - isn’t it time to turn in a more positive direction? (The Hoya)

Indiana: Picking the Right Style for a Vacation in Israel
by Mallory Zalkin

The is past winter break I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to spend 10 days in Israel. My trip was sponsored through an organization called "Birthright."  Caught up in my excitement, I pulled out the itinerary a week before my departure so that I could figure out what to pack. When I saw a New Year's party and nights at Israel's famous clubs scheduled, I thought the trip was right up my alley and I knew exactly what to bring. Or so I thought. (Indiana Digital Student)

San Diego State: Freedom of Cartooning Tears Public Discourse at its Seams
by Brian Bockelman

You want to talk about offensive cartoons? Cartoons that are shocking, bloody and inappropriate? If so, you really should start reading newspapers from Saudi Arabia. One of the jewels of anti-Semitism I've dug up is a cartoon of Ariel Sharon using a swastika as an axe to chop up Palestinian babies. Was it an angry, frustrated response to the Muhammad cartoons that have ignited the Muslim world in protest? No - it was published in the Arab News on April 10, 2002. (Daily Aztec)

Wake Forest: Bring Hamas to the Table
by Ted Janis

As editor Rami Khouri told us in an address on Feb. 1, there have been seven elections in the past eight months in the Middle East in which Islamist parties won majorities. The more we treat Hamas like any other political entity, the more likely they will act as a legitimate political entity.  Bringing Hamas to the table will be a much safer and productive action than shunning them from the international arena. (Old Gold and Black)

Why Is Georgetown Providing a Platform for This Dangerous Group?
by Eric Adler and Jack Langer

The purported aim of the PSM is to encourage divestment from Israel. To this end, its conferences boast a cavalcade of anti-Israel speakers whose speeches often degenerate into anti-Semitism. At the 2004 conference at Duke University, for example, keynote speaker Mazin Qumsiyeh referred to Zionism as a "disease." Workshop leader Bob Brown deemed the Six-Day War "the Jew War of '67." Not to be outdone, Nasser Abufarha praised the terrorist activities of Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. (Washington Post)

Illinois: Don't Blame Israel
by Edward M. Brener, letter to the editor

Israel has been the subject of thousands of anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist cartoons over the years. Most of these originate from the Arab world. The most prevalent difference is that when the Egyptian daily Al-Wafd  newspaper prints an anti-Semitic cartoon, Israelis don't rush off to torch the Egyptian embassy in Tel Aviv. Israel was not involved in the printing or distribution of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Therefore, it is difficult to understand why anyone would choose to attack Israel over them. Allow me to simplify things for the readers: For these anti-Zionists, this cartoon controversy presented an opportunity to drag Israel's name through the mud. (Daily Illini)

Ohio State: Palestinian Democracy
by Emily Rubenstein, letter to the editor

The repression and humiliation the Palestinians have undisputedly suffered is a product of highly ineffective, faulty, misguided Palestinian leadership, not an Israeli government that defends itself out of necessity against violent terrorists who kill innocent civilians on a regular basis. The Palestinian electorate, however, seems not to have learned, as they continue, with this Hamas victory, to elect officials who are the true culprits behind the hindrance of the Palestinian quest for freedom and equal rights. (The Lantern)

Virginia: The Reality of Intolerance
by Todd Rosenbaum

Two options are open to us here: Either we can agree not to tolerate speech that is offensive to anyone, or we can acknowledge that controversial speech will remain a reality at such a diverse university. The Israeli singer Subliminal has no more of a right to be here than Norman Finkelstein did. If Hoos for Israel wishes to condemn SPJP's guests, it should be prepared to scrutinize its own by the same standards, and vice versa. (Cavalier Daily)

Wisconsin-Milwaukee: Hamas Not to Be Trusted
by Zak Mazur

For Israelis the Hamas victory is, ironically, not necessarily a disaster. Israel has been under pressure to negotiate with a wolf in sheep’s clothing. With the Hamas victory, however, the sheep’s clothing has been stripped away. Staring back at Israelis is a snarling wolf with innocent Jewish blood dripping from its teeth. International pressure on Israel to continue “peace” talks and concessions are over for now. The pressure is now on the Palestinians. (UWM Post)
