Interview with Olmert Before His Visit to U.S.
by Lally Weymouth

After the fighting in Lebanon, and also the failure of the Palestinians to cope with continued terrorist actions, I have second thoughts about the ability to accomplish the two-state solution through realignment. It is definitely not dead but it has to be reexamined. One thing I can promise: Under no circumstances am I going to withdraw from the need to engage in a serious dialogue with the Palestinians, toward the implementation of the vision which I share with President Bush. Israeli Lawmaker Sues Iran President

A Likud party member of Israel's parliament plans to sue Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his remarks to destroy Israel. Danny Naveh has joined other former top Israeli officials to draft the lawsuit against the Iranian leader. Others in the petition include former Ambassador to the United Nations Dore Gold and former Foreign Ministry Director General Eytan Bentsur. The lawsuit is expected to filed in the International Criminal Court at The Hague in the Netherlands. (United Press International)

Syria Warns of 'Resistance' Within Months
by Aaron Klein

In a rare visit to the Israeli controlled Golan Heights, Syria's information minister last week delivered what amounted to a pep speech to Golan residents, telling them Damascus would use "resistance" to liberate the strategic territory if a "political solution" does not ensure Israel vacates the Golan Heights within the next few months. "If in the next coming months there will not be a political solution, military resistance will be the only solution for Syrians," announced Information Minister Mohsen Bilal, shouting on a loudspeaker from the Syrian border just feet from a fence that separates the Israeli controlled sections of the Golan from Syria. U.S. Vetoes UN Security Council Resolution Condeming Israeli Hostilities

The United States vetoed a U.N. Security Council draft resolution today that sought to condemn an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip and demand Israeli troops pull out the territory. U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said the Arab-backed draft resolution was "biased against Israel and politically motivated. This resolution does not display an evenhanded characterization of the recent events in Gaza, nor does it advance the cause of Israeli-Palestinian peace to which we aspire and for which we are working assiduously," he told the Security Council. Israel Uncovers Female ‘Terror Network’

Israeli security forces uncovered a network of Palestinian women who were used as conduits to transfer money from Syria to terror operatives and their families, and helped carry out terror attacks against Israelis. The Shin Bet and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) uncovered the network during August and September. Security forces have arrested several female members of the Islamic Jihad, who were suspected of helping two terror cells in the West Bank. A female suicide bomber from Islamic Jihad blew herself up near a group of Israeli soldiers at a makeshift checkpoint in northern Gaza on Monday. The bomber was killed and an Israeli soldier was lightly wounded. (Media Line)
