Miami’s Miller School of Medicine Deepens Israel Ties

By Lauren Schmidt, ICB Reporter

The dean of the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine, Pascal J. Goldschmidt, recently returned from Israel, where he participated in a delegation of 30 Florida business and government leaders who joined the state's governor, Rick Scott, on a trade mission. The delegation met with Israeli government and business leaders in Tel Aviv, Beersheva and Jerusalem.

According to a Miller School news release, Dean Goldschmidt has visited Israel various times, collaborating with prominent medical schools in Israel including Bar-Ilan University and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU.)

In June, the University of Miami and BGU signed a formal agreement to collaborate in student exchanges and joint research. Goldschmidt's participation in the December trip reinforced these plans as he signed a memorandum of understanding with the school for plans to collaborate on research regarding cancer, neuroscience, cardiology and diabetes, according to a press release from the Miller School.
